James Pratt was born in Wellington, New Zealand. He was introduced to the world of art at a very young age by his father, a very accomplished artist himself. James has always been involved with design and creativity. He worked as an International Marketing Director in both New Zealand and the United States, before embarking upon a professional career as a painter. James credits his wife, Beverly, with giving him the opportunity to devote himself to his lifetime passion. James finds constant inspiration during his frequent travels throughout Europe. He especially enjoys depicting quaint and picturesque market places, villages, sea ports and cafes. James carefully composes these scenes through the lens of his digital camera, and then captures the light and mood in watercolor. Upon retuning to his studio, he puts his palette knife to canvas. Pratt's artwork hangs in private and public collections throughout the United States, UK, France, Australia and New Zealand. He lives in Bloomington, Illinois, and spends much of his time at his second home in Southern France.
